Rae Darlington Joins AlphaBEST Education Team

LEWISVILLE, N.C., November 13, 2019 – AlphaBEST Education, a leading provider of before and after school enrichment-based programs, is delighted to share that Rae Darlington, former Deputy Superintendent for Prince William County Schools, VA, who has also been serving as a consultant to AlphaBEST since 2017, has expanded her role effective November 1, 2019, to lead the organization’s quality assurance and improvement work.

As Chief Academic Consultant, Darlington will collaborate with AlphaBEST’s existing team to coordinate and align professional development, quality improvement and curriculum implementation. In addition, Darlington will lead AlphaBEST’s initiative to become nationally accredited by AdvancED.

“I’m excited to join the AlphaBEST team as the Chief Academic Consultant to continue building upon a culture that works with a ‘yes’ mindset, places the highest priority on researching the most innovative best practices for students participating in before and after school care and learning opportunities, and has a keen and proven pattern of continuous growth serving diverse communities of learners, “said Darlington. “Because the responsibilities of my position are multi-faceted, a primary focus is organizational quality assurance of internal and external practices and programs, ensuring the curriculum is innovative and meets and exceeds the learning needs of AlphaBEST’s diverse community of learners, examining professional development offerings in alignment with field needs, as well as leadership development and skill building at all internal and external levels of AlphaBEST.”

Darlington was first introduced to AlphaBEST while serving as Deputy Superintendent in Prince William County Public Schools, the state’s second largest school division and the largest single AlphaBEST contract. Working side-by-side with the Superintendent, Darlington oversaw the team of Associate Superintendents and was instrumental in the success of the division’s transition to AlphaBEST as their before school, after school and summer program partner.

“My commitment to student learning spans 37 years teaching at the college level, middle school, instructional coach K-12, and serving administratively at the middle and high school levels, associate superintendent, and deputy superintendent,” said Darlington. “It will be the AlphaBEST team that moves us all forward and I’m proud to join this industry leader.”

Darlington was one of three finalists for the National Middle School Principal of the Year in 2003, after being named the Prince William County and Virginia Middle School Principal of the Year. During the 2002–2003 school year, she was also a Washington Post Distinguished Leadership Recipient. She has co-authored three teacher manuals and has published several articles.

“Darlington’s expertise as an educator and leader, particularly in the areas of curriculum and professional development, will help propel AlphaBEST toward our goal of serving as the ‘gold standard’ in extended day programs,” said Judy Nee, CEO, AlphaBEST. “We are fortunate to have Rae on our team.”
